Keyword Research Tools – WordTracker and Overture Suggestion Tool

The first step with any internet marketing or search engine optimization campaign (SEO) should be to build a decent size keyword list. Many SEO campaigns fail before they start because the webmaster didn’t build a large enough keyword list. In this video Phil will show you two tools he prefers to build a well targeted keyword list.

In this example we will show you how to build your keyword list off of just one word. Remember you can do this for all of your “primary” keyword phrases:

Original keyword: Search Engine Optimization

Additional keywords created from the original:

Search Engine Optimization Services

Search Engine Optimization Company

Search Engine Optimization Firm

Eyeflow recommends the following tools for building your keyword list:

Wordtracker

Overture Suggestion Tool (Free)

SEO Book (Free)

Additional tips and advice for building your keyword list:

1. Check your log files and see what keywords are performing well already and try to build off those keywords (i.e. if you rank well for “SEO Video” you can easily grab longer phrases such as “Educational SEO Video, SEO Video tutorials, Online SEO Videos, etc…”)

2. Start with less competitive keywords and work your way up to the harder ones. Nothing is more frustrating then not seeing any results of tons of hard work.

3. Divide your keyword list up over several pages. Don’t expect your homepage to rank for every keyword in your list. Group several keywords per page and optimize accordingly.
